Three Tips for a Great Interview
You’ve probably heard it a thousand times before, but it bears repeating. When it comes to interviews you only get one chance to make a first impression. If you’re serious about getting that job, make sure the first impression you make is a great one. Here are three steps to help you make the best impression.
- It’s not enough to arrive on time for your interview, you’ve got to get there early. Arriving a few minutes early allows you time to mentally prepare, use the restroom if necessary, and complete any required paperwork in advance. Arriving early also helps your potential employer view you as punctual.
- Always dress the part. If you’re interviewing for an administrative position at a conservative company, dress the part. Arriving to the interview in yoga pants and a tank top doesn’t send the message that you’ll fit into their environment. On the other hand, if you are interviewing for a position as a yoga instructor and arrive at the interview in a three-piece suit, chances are you won’t look like you fit in there either.
- Before your interview, visit the company’s website and take notes about the company’s culture, mission, and goals. During the interview, talk about some of the things you learned in your research and let the interviewer know how your skills and qualifications can help the company reach its goals.
Now go get that job!
