A Curriculum Vitae, also known as a CV, is the primary form of resume used by individuals seeking employment in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. In the United States, a CV is typically used when an individual is applying for education, scientific, research or academic positions.
A Curriculum Vitae summarizes a candidate’s educational, academic, and work background.
While a typical resume is one to two pages in length, a CV can be as short as two to three pages and can get up to several pages in length. In addition to the items seen on a typical resume, a Curriculum Vitae may also include sections for publications, teaching experience, research experience, and honors and awards.
Unless you applying for a job outside of the United States or are applying for an academic position, a CV should only be used when requested by the potential employer.
